Our last glimpse of MMW from Jamaica, an afternoon set in the sun — another HUGE thanks to the guy who captured these!

Opening with a hopping Chinoiserie, this is mostly a straight-up grooving set with a minor detour into some Improv, but this is a hell of a way to spend your afternoon — sweet grooves! Night Marchers digs especially deep and then opens up a nice passage leading us to Wiggly’s Way. A calm and groovy Brigas Nunca Mais follows, and then a shot of heaven takes us out with Heaven On Earth — this is a tune Medeski recorded on a live release with James Carter entitled, you guessed it, Heaven on Earth. The song is an old Larry Young tune you can check out here if you want. It’s popped up a few times with MMW since that Carter release in 2009, the first of which was in the midst of some killer improvisation on a snowy night on 12/5/2009 — love that gig! (But I’m biased having stood front/centre before Chris for the entire night!)
